Gen Z - Who are They?
Born 1996 - 2015
• Environmental Factors: Life after 9/11, the Great Recession, and access to technology from a young age ( digital natives).
• Gifts: Diversity, personalization, individuality, creativity.
• Communication style: IMs, texts, social media, like face-to-face, particularly with managers.
• Perspective: Digital Native, independent, individual, preferring to work with Millennial managers, they value innovative coworkers and new technologies.
• Work Requirements: Offer opportunities to work on multiple projects at the same time; provide work-life balance; allow them to be self-directed and independent. Ask them to improve processes to break the monotony of repetitive tasks.
• Work Style: Authentic, competitive, outspoken/opinionated, possible weakness in problem-solving due to over-reliance on technology.
• Generation Z is the most racially and ethnically diverse age group in the US.
• Projections are that by 2025, a total of 27% of the workforce will be comprised of Gen Z.
• They are known to have an 8-second attention span.
